December 2007 Newsletter
Live for the Future....

As mentioned in the last newsletter we would like to invite all parish councillors to attend the forthcoming workshops on the Local Development Framework Core Strategy. The five original dates have been confirmed and we have just added a new date at Wickham on Thursday 24th January.

We have also been under pressure to provide a second date in Winchester but at present the numbers signed-up to attend do not justify it. We are keeping a close eye on this so shall be in touch if anything changes.

Please try and encourage any interested friends and colleagues to come along too. Click on the map to view it as full size

To register to attend one of these sessions please click here.

A Live for the Future campaign
e-newsletter was recently sent out, giving an update on what's happening and what the next steps are.
If you would like to read it online click here.

The next newsletter will go out in the next few days and, as well as providing links to the full cabinet report, will also link straight through to the online consultation on the LDF Issues and Options Core Strategy.

You can sign up to receive future editions of the Live for the Future newsletter at: www.winchester.gov.uk/liveforthefuture.

An overview of the Local Development Framework is now also available online, giving some key facts and figures. Click here to view it.

Working together on the Council's Corporate Strategy and the 2008/2009 budget

Leader of Winchester City Council George Beckett recently wrote to all parish council chairs inviting your views on a number of things, including; spending plans for the coming year; the concept of 'hubs and clusters'; and how best to arrange ongoing dialogue between parish colleagues.

Parish councils should note the link between discussions on parish hubs and clusters and similar references within the Issues and Options paper (see above).

Your response to the Issues and Options paper will help to inform other policies around hubs and clusters and access to services.

Climate Change Plan - now out

Tackling climate change has been demonstrated as being at the heart of Winchester City Council's work after Cabinet approved the Climate Change Plan on behalf of the whole district.

The plan contains a framework for change including the four important outcomes: reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing renewable energy generation, adaptation planning, and community involvement. It also sets an ambitious target to reduce -  by 30% - the district's carbon emissions between now and 2015.

The Plan is just the beginning of the work that needs to be done, and the City Council welcomes the increasing number of groups and individuals playing their part. The establishment of the group Winchester Action on Climate Change (WinACC) has been endorsed by Cabinet's three year commitment to contributing funding towards their important work.

If parishes want to get more involved or tell us about their actions then please get in touch. Speak to Sustainability Officer Teresa Kennard on tkennard@winchester.gov.uk or call (01962) 848 116
