Welcome Welcome to the fourth edition of our WDSP e-bulletin. Since the last bulletin, the WDSP has been busy setting out the District’s priorities for the Hampshire Local Area Agreement (LAA) consultation. Hampshire LAA– Agreeing on Action
The Hampshire Local Area Agreement (LAA) continues to be an important focus for the WDSP. At the end of last year the Partnership submitted its top areas for action in the Winchester District as part of the LAA consultation. You can find out more about the LAA on the WDSP website.

Find your talent
The Government recently announced the ‘Find your Talent’ programme, providing five hours of culture for every child and young person each week both in and out of school settings. Two official seminars for the region have been organized by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council, South East and Arts Council England, South East.
These will explain more about the programme and stimulate expressions of interest in the ten pilot projects to be rolled out in the new academic year. One of the seminars will take place at Winchester Guildhall on 5th March from 11am to 3pm.

Winchester Savers - logo  
Good news for borrowers and savers!
Winchester Savers, the long-awaited credit union for Winchester and District, is open for business. The credit union is a money co-op in which people save together and then, in times of need, borrow from the accumulated savings at a modest rate that is capped by the Government. Deposits are guaranteed by the FSA compensation scheme.

Spotlight on Community Safety
The Community Safety Partnership has published its annual strategic assessment. This analyses issues affecting public safety in the District and sets priorities for action. Winchester Town Access Plan
Have your say on the way we move in and around the town and on making the best use of the highways and public spaces. Winchester City Council and Hampshire County Council will be holding an exhibition in the Saxon Suite, Winchester Guildhall on:
  • Friday 7th March 1pm - 6pm
  • Saturday 8th March 10am to 1pm
You can give your views on a number of accessibility issues such as traffic management, public transport, parking, 'shared space' environments, walking and cycling.

Latest round of Community Chest grants open
£10,000 is up for grabs in the Winchester District. The City Council has opened its latest round of Community Chest grants for not-for-profit voluntary organisations, community groups, and registered charities. You can apply for a one-off grant of up to £500 through the scheme. The closing date for applications is 12th March 2008.

WinACC Update
Is Winchester Action on Climate Change too ambitious or not ambitious enough? The draft plan for WinACC for 2008/09 has been posted on the WinACC website, www.winacc.org.uk WinACC supporters are invited to send comments on the plan to the Convenor drd.hutchison@btinternet.com to arrive no later than 20 March. It is intended that the Plan will be finalised before the end of March.

Easy Eco-Auditing: Public Meeting
All will be welcome at the public meeting which is being organised by WinACC, and which will be held on Wednesday 26 March at 7:30pm at the United Church, Jewry Street, Winchester. The journalist, author and eco-auditor Donnachadh McCarthy will be talking about his latest book “Easy Eco-Auditing - How to make your home and workplace planet friendly".
The book, published by Hamlyn’s Gaia Press on 15 February, is described as ‘an essential handbook for those at home, work and school who want to assess their environmental performance and create a practical action plan to improve it’.
 
WDSP – review of the year
Find out the successes and challenges for the WDSP over the past year by reading its annual report. This was discussed by the City Council’s Principal Scrutiny Committee. Elected Members at the Council were pleased to see the progress being made by the Partnership.

Fairtrade Fortnight
February 25 to March 9 2008 is Fairtrade Fortnight and Winchester is taking part. There are lots of events planned in the area including coffee mornings and fairtrade goods sales.
